The thesis of the exhibition and the digital archive is to reposition Camillo Boito’s multifaceted work within the cultural dimension of architectural design, as a catalyst for a constellation that encompasses the “unity of the arts,” educational and civic institutions, and the productive world of craftsmanship and know-how.

The works Boito engaged with—schools, hospitals, charitable institutions, cemeteries, and more—stand as monuments to urban civilization. Yet they also represent the accumulation of a cultural industry that, even then, anticipated what we now recognise as an industry of the arts.
